What You Should Know About Victoria Falls In Africa

This waterfalls lie between the Zambia and Zimbabwe border. It has existed for some two million years. The indigenous name of Victoria Falls is Mosi-oa-Tunya which mean “the smoke that thunders.” Even if you are from a dozen miles away, you can spot the mist it creates.  This falls is more than 1.25 miles wide, reportedly twice the height of Niagara Falls in North America. It flows over a basalt plateau and it plunges as much as 358 feet.

How To Ensure An Ultimate Experience When Visiting This Place

Visit at the right time.
Knowing the best time visit will guarantee the experience you are expecting. If you want to witness Victoria Falls on its greatest volume, visit from February to May. The region just had its summer rains on these months so about 540 cubic meters of water could fall over the edge. This volume creates too much spray plume. From June to August, there is still plenty of water but these months bring little to no rain.  And in October to November, the water level will be at its lowest. The mist is gone and you will get to see a fantastic panoramic view of the waterfalls.

View from the Zimbabwe side.
If you are travelling to Africa from October to November and you want to see the falls overflowing, view it from the Zimbabwe side. Zambia side dry up during these months but Zimbabwe lends a spectacular view.

See this beauty from different points.

Victoria Falls is big and to fully appreciate it beauty, you have to see it from different viewpoints. Get a full scale view of it by booking a helicopter flight. If you want to see it up close, you may want to try a river-level view. From the Knife Edge Bridge, you can also get spectacular view.

Experience adventures at Victoria Falls.
More than witnessing its beauty and grandeur, you can also arrange several adventurous activities here - white water rafting, bungee jumping, and African wildlife safari, and more. Your travel agency can help you arrange these activities.

Dip and Swim
There is a Devil’s Pool in the Zambian side where you can swim at certain seasons. The natural rock walls that come out when the water gets low enough serves as the barrier that keep the swimmers from being carried away. Swimming at this so called ultimate infinity pool is a great experience.
